Mitchell Breaks Career Rushing Record as Forrest Wins Thriller Over Sequatchie County, 39–36

Quincy Mitchell became Forrest’s all-time leading rusher, and Micah Morgan connected with Jon Hightower for the winning touchdown with just 11 seconds remaining as the Rockets edged Sequatchie County 39–36 in a dramatic finish.

Mitchell rushed for 207 yards and two touchdowns on 33 carries, surpassing Nick McClendon’s previous career record of 5,214 yards. Entering the contest 85 yards shy of that mark, Mitchell finished the night with 5,336 career rushing yards, establishing a new standard for the Rockets.

Forrest built a 25–8 halftime advantage before Sequatchie County mounted a second-half comeback. After the Indians moved ahead 36–32 in the fourth quarter, Morgan’s nine-yard touchdown pass to Hightower put the Rockets back in front in the closing seconds.

Mitchell got Forrest started with touchdown runs of 52 and 42 yards in the opening quarter, giving the Rockets a 14–0 lead. The defense helped create that early advantage, with Hightower intercepting a pass and Forrest forcing punts on Sequatchie County’s next two possessions.

Isai Garcia extended the lead with a 29-yard field goal in the second quarter. Hunter Minton answered with a one-yard touchdown run for the Indians before Morgan found Braden Bourne for a 19-yard score. Mitchell then connected with Bourne for the two-point conversion, sending Forrest into halftime ahead 25–8.

Sequatchie County opened its second-half scoring with Minton’s 44-yard touchdown pass to Braydon Lewis. Forrest responded with Morgan’s 28-yard scoring strike to Hightower, helping the Rockets carry a 32–16 advantage into the fourth quarter.

The Indians rallied with Minton touchdown passes of four yards to Kason Hicks and 28 yards to Mason Campbell. Hicks followed with a 15-yard touchdown run, giving Sequatchie County a 36–32 lead.

With the game on the line, Forrest answered. Morgan found Hightower for the nine-yard touchdown with 11 seconds left, completing the Rockets’ late comeback and securing the three-point victory.

Morgan finished 19-of-25 passing for 185 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. Hightower caught five passes for 46 yards and two scores while also contributing the first-quarter interception on defense.

Mitchell added six receptions for 51 yards to his record-setting rushing performance, finishing with 258 yards from scrimmage. Bourne caught three passes for 46 yards and a touchdown, Jacob Tincher had three receptions for 28 yards, and Isaac Cruse added two catches for 14 yards.

Forrest totaled 392 yards of offense, including 207 rushing and 185 passing. The Rockets’ defense held Sequatchie County to 75 rushing yards on 24 attempts.

Minton led the Indians with 262 passing yards and three touchdowns, completing 19 of 26 attempts with one interception. He also rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Hicks added 35 yards and a score on 11 attempts.

Campbell led Sequatchie County’s receivers with four catches for 76 yards and a touchdown. Gowan Brown contributed two catches for 67 yards, while Lewis had three receptions for 64 yards and a score. The Indians finished with 337 yards of total offense.
